Why You Might Need Landscape Design
Common situations we see across Northern Virginia yards.
Your yard doesn't flow — beds are random, plants are in the wrong spots, and nothing ties together.
You want a real plan before you spend money on plants and hardscape — not just trial and error.
You're planning a full yard renovation and need a design that fits your property, style, and budget.
How JYG Approaches Landscape Design
A great yard starts with a great plan. We assess your site — sun, soil, drainage, and how you actually use the space — then design planting layouts, bed shapes, and hardscape flow that fit your property and your style. We can install it all or phase it over time so you can spread the investment.
What a Design Consultation Can Address
Landscape design should produce a plan that fits the property, the customer's priorities and the level of maintenance the homeowner wants to take on. A consultation can address:
- Planting bed layout and shape
- Property refreshes and bed redesigns
- Material choices
- Budget alignment
- Existing features and mature trees
- Maintenance expectations
- Phasing a larger project over time
A Practical, Phased Approach
Not every yard needs to be done at once. We can design a plan that is installed in phases — front beds one season, back beds the next, hardscape later — so you can spread the investment over time. Each phase is defined with a clear scope and price, and the overall plan keeps the phases connected so the finished yard looks intentional, not piecemeal.
What the Design Fee Covers
A detailed planting or hardscape design requires a design fee. The fee covers the site assessment, the plan, and the plant or material selections. Whether the fee is credited toward installation, refundable, or nonrefundable depends on the approved terms in the written proposal — we will be upfront about the terms before you commit. The design fee is separate from installation unless the proposal states otherwise. We do not invent terms; all fee terms are stated in writing before any work begins.

Northern Virginia Considerations
Northern Virginia's clay soil, mature tree canopy, and HOA guidelines all shape what's possible in your yard. We design for our climate zone (7a/7b), choose plants that handle our humid summers and clay soil, and respect community standards for plant choices, bed styles, and hardscape materials.
Serving the Gainesville–Haymarket Corridor
We design landscapes for Gainesville and Haymarket properties along the James Madison Highway corridor — from established planned communities to newer homes where builder-grade yards need a real plan.
